Certified EMR

An EMR that is "certified" to be valid for reimbursement under the HITECH section of ARRA.

But the term wasn't defined.

CCHIT currently "certifies" EMR-s, but that's a closed non-public brand, and it's not clear that it should apply to the HITECH criterion.

• their "ambulatory" (non-hospital-based) criteria are available

• is CCHIT biased against Open Source systems?

• is CCHIT in bed with HIMSS, which is essentially a vendor organization?

• is it biased towards "perfect" idealistic aims, regardless of how much disruption this causes practitioners (with unknown objective ROI)? (vs Worse Is Better)

  • conversely, New Creation I T is aiming toward low-cost (while still being certified)

  • Sea Chit is focusing on Simple/Effective/Affordable.
