In terms of the study of any EcoSystem, bio-DiversIty is talking about the number of species being able to survive. Vs a single big In Bred specie. As you approach the latter state, you get short-term efficiency (crop yields, etc.) at a risk of huge failure (e.g. potato famine, MsOutlook viruses).
